MANDALA.
The practice of creating Mandala has been a sacred art, a spiritual science of connecting with our consciousness. It was originated in India, thousands of years ago, and it has been preserved until today.
Mandala, a sanskrit word meaning sacred circle, are circular drawings containing geometric patterns, forms and symbolic images around a center. The Circle is the first enclosed form of Sacred Geometry; while the single point represents the source from which form flows inward and outward. They are universal symbols with unlimited possibilities.
In Alchemy, the circle is associated to the prima materia, the primordial substance from which the whole creation was first made of. In most cultures, the circle and the sky are closely linked to each other; and the sky is related to the paradise, angels and the Gods. Therefore, there is a symbolic association among circle, Mandala and Divinity. That could be the reason why Mandalas have been used as sacred symbols for various traditions, transcended the religion. They have existed and continue to be created in different forms: the Stone Mandalas and cave paintings form our Neolitical ancestors, the refined Tibetan Budhist Mandalas, the geometric Hindu Yantras, the simple and natural mandalas from native Americans, the inspirative Mandalas form the Christian tradition in the form of stained glass windows present on Churches and Cathedrals.
Mandalas represent the integration with the whole, with the absolute. Spiritually they are considered energy centers, as well as centers of balance, purification, inclusion, acceptance, potentiality and healing.
